Watching TV during meals

Pregnant women who have the habit of watching TV while eating may continue it while they are feeding their child. Initial breastfeed is the most important nutrient, that your child is getting. That should be given with utmost care so as to avoid choking, developing an ear infection (due to placing the baby in a wrong position while feeding.), vomiting etc.

 A study conducted by the Pediatric Academic Society of Vancouver suggests that watching TV while feeding your child can pose a risk of childhood obesity for the baby later on in life. This accounts for a poor quality diet and there is also a greater possibility of the mother missing out the cues indicating the baby is full. Other studies also suggest that this habit is also linked to overeating, eating junk food and also an unhealthy lifestyle too.

Eating red meat too often

Red meat is to be kept away from pregnant women. According to a commentary published in a journal- Evidence based Nursing by Phillipa Middleton, gestational diabetes was seen more in women who consume more of red meat. This in turn leads to child’s obesity. The cause of this is the excess fat and additives present in red meat. So if you must consume red meat, make sure you eat in moderation and if possible try avoiding it for a while.

Gaining too much or too little weight

According to a new research, mothers who put on a lot of weight during pregnancy may affect the energy balance mechanisms like appetite control in their baby and these kids have a higher risk of obesity. Being too much fat during the third trimester makes it all the more difficult for delivery.

On the other hand, not gaining enough weight can also lead to children being obese. Having too little food does not give the right amount of nutrients and protein required for your growing child.
